This book has been revised for the new syllabus and to more accurately reflect the types of questions now being asked in the Engineering Studies HSC examination.

The purpose of this book is for students to have typical HSC type questions relevant to the 10 units in the Engineering Studies Workbook to practise after completing each of the 10 units in class.

As all experienced teachers are aware, it is very important to not only teach syllabus content but also to develop student skills in firstly, understanding what is required of HSC questions and secondly, to show students how to set-out and answer questions correctly.

Students should be made aware of the fact that if HSC markers can view a well set-out answer with all of the relevant information required of the question, they may receive maximum or near maximum marks for an incorrect answer depending on the circumstances of the question. This book aims to develop these student skills.

This workbook aims to achieve the following:

to relieve pressure/stress on teachers when asked how to explain a question; with the solutions provided, teachers can work through a solution rather than be put on the spot by students to provide a solution to a question with which they may not be familiar

to provide students with typical HSC type questions for students to practise

to provide students with typical solutions so that students can learn how to answer HSC questions

to provide teachers and students with a way of testing the effectiveness of teaching and learning

to provide teachers with a means of setting work conveniently for teacher/student absences

to key in with the Engineering Studies Workbook so that after completion of each unit of work, students can work through typical HSC questions related to the unit

to allow students to learn from solutions - a powerful method of learning which, unfortunately, some teachers do not use

to provide solutions which students should model so that markers can give credit for incorrect or part incorrect answers in the HSC

to develop student/teacher confidence in this subject by providing practise in how to answer the types of questions which they will probably encounter in the HSC.
